What is one role that a school counselor does NOT typically perform?

A school counselor's primary responsibilities include addressing academic, career, and mental health needs of students. While they often engage in academic advising by helping students with course selections and strategies for academic success, they also serve as career planners by guiding students through career exploration and planning for post-secondary education or job opportunities. Additionally, counselors often act as mental health facilitators, offering support and interventions for students facing emotional or psychological challenges.

Classroom management, however, is usually the responsibility of teachers. While counselors may occasionally interact with students in a classroom setting or provide guidance on social interactions, they do not take on the full role of managing a classroom, which includes duties such as maintaining order and delivering instruction. This distinction clearly differentiates the primary focus of the counselor's role from those duties traditionally associated with teaching.
